Irish Hotel Booker’s Budget Comes Early
In a week that the Government announced the Budget will happen 6 weeks early www.hotelsinone.ie can announce Hotel Prices are down and staying down.
The Budget
Petrol up? The Pint up? Taxes up? More then likely yes. Hotel prices up? Not a chance. The simple fact is Hotels in the current economic do not have the comfort of being able to increase prices. Unlike for example a car that a dealer cannot sell today but will be able to sell tomorrow if a Hotel does not sell a room today they can never get that sale back.
There have never been more Irish Hotels around the Country & it is a difficult year to fill them. This is good for YOU the booker. Prices are down on 2007 that’s a fact. Irish Hotels Irish Food?
I am straying away from Hotel talk a bit today. Currently there is a lot of talk these days about food miles. Buying your food locally is the new buzz work but how practical is this? I live near 2 major supermarket chains & I find it is very difficult to get Irish vegetables. Last week in one of these stores I could not find Irish carrots. Now I do like my food and also like produce from countries all around the world but if I want a carrot I want an Irish one and not one that has travelled half way around the world. As far as I know we still grow carrots in this country?
Famers Markets
It is great to see the growth of farmers markets around the country. I love going to them but only when they are done well. One of the things that does annoy me is when some markets charge excessive prices for local produce. Here is the way I see it. A farmer sells a bag of potatoes to a supermarket chain and gets €1. The supermarkets sell the potatoes to the customer for €3. The Farmer goes to the farmers market all sells the same bag of potatoes for €2. They get €1 more and the customer pays €1 less. Both are happy. I have seen some markets where the potatoes are more expensive then the Supermarket? I don’t know maybe this is an Irish thing.
Thankfully there are some great Farmers Markets out there that have the balance right. I have been at the Midleton Market in Co Cork a lot and the experience and the quality of food are a joy to behold. I have come across to a great blog and it shows the locations of Farmers Markets around the Country.
